Backyard Garden Party Wedding: Kim and Chas

We are in the midst of a picture perfect summer here in Seattle – Glorious 75 degrees and sunny nearly every day and I am soaking up all of that much needed Vitamin D. Beautiful weather also means wedding season & this heavenly climate couldn’t have been more welcomed at Kim and Chas’s backyard wedding last weekend in Black Diamond, WA.

Kim’s dad had spent countless hours turning their family property into the wildflower garden his baby girl had dreamed of. Patches of wildflowers separated the farm tables from the dance floor – the perfect backdrop from both directions for festivity and celebration. Every element and detail was colorful and whimsical. Kim had assembled the bouquets herself – even picking some of the flowers from her own garden. Dinnerware was mismatched china that she had picked up at various consignment stores and estate sales. Kim had just recently graduated interior design school so I knew the aesthetics would be on point! I loved the casual seating areas she created around the yard – framing the expansive yard games for guests to play, from giant Jenga to “Yolf” (yard golf!)

I met Kim last year at Elegant Affairs’ office warming party down in Tacoma. Kim had worked with Lori during college so it was practically a given that she would be helping Kim out when it came time for her to tie the knot! I’ve known Lori for a couple of years now & always look forward to getting to work with her. She is an absolute rock star & such a pleasure to be around! Kim & I hit it off immediately, our bubbly personalities stepping right in tune with each other. I was so thrilled when she asked if I would capture their day, and we had a blast taking their engagement photos at Snoqualmie Falls last fall with their pup, Annie.

Now a little back-story on this sweet couple… Kim & Chas have actually known each other since they were little kids. Kim’s cousin is Chas’s best friend (and served as best man) so they grew up going on family vacations together. It wasn’t until 2007 though that they “re-met” (on Kim’s 21st birthday!) and still a little while longer until they started dating. It was so fun to hear all of the childhood memories and stories that both families referenced during their toasts – this is a type of long-enduring love and friendship that you don’t hear about as often these days.

Kim and Chas call each other their puzzle piece & magnet – because they fit so well and are simply drawn to each other. I know they have a beautiful life ahead and I can’t wait to see where their adventure takes them. Congratulations you two, and thank you again, so much, for having me capture your perfect day!! Cheers to you!

Kim is a dancer & former gymnast so I loved her nod to ballet with her golden lace-up wedding shoes! Not to mention they seemed pretty comfy! She even changed into barefoot beaded foot covers for the reception – a true flower-child at heart!

I was also pretty in to Chas’s floral tie that Kim found from a British shop!

The bridesmaids helping Kim hide from her dad as he walked through the getting-ready room!

One of my favorite reasons for doing a “First Look” is to allow my couples to have alone time together and really get to enjoy the moment. I loved how sweet Kim & Chas were seeing each other for the first time and all of the kisses & hugs being alone allows!

The blue lace around Kim’s bouquet was actually from her great-great grandmother! Definitely checks the boxes, old, borrowed & blue!

I just couldn’t get enough of the back of Kim’s dress! It was equal parts boho & elegance!

Annie was the perfect little flower girl!!

The violinists, pianist & singer performed an acoustic version of Latch by Sam Smith during the ceremony – it was absolutely beautiful!!

Kim grew up with this rattan chair & always loved it – She was able to find another (slightly larger) one online and they made the perfect chairs at their sweetheart table!

This confetti is actually dried flowers and flower petals that Kim ordered online! So fun & eco-friendly!

Kim even made their cake topper – Chas the golfer & Kim the gymnast!
