Congratulations! You’re engaged! Now comes the fun part. Sorting all of this photography stuff out! You may be scouring the internet, confused by all of the options when choosing your wedding photographer & photography package. What are the bells and whistles? What do you actually need? From number of hours of coverage, to engagement session, to high resolution files, and albums. There are so many options to mix and match! Here are my top 3 essentials for choosing the best wedding photography package for you!

1. High Resolution Images / Printing Rights

Every photographer treats digital files a bit differently. While it is a perfectly acceptable practice to charge for high resolution images, you’ll need to know this ahead of time so you aren’t blindsided by expensive fees after the wedding. Make sure you discuss this with your photographer and know what is included in your wedding photography package. If high resolution images aren’t included, you may be charged per image, have the choice of selecting which images you want, or need to pay for all of your prints through the photographer.

I personally include high resolution images & printing rights in my wedding photography package because I want to encourage my couples (and their friends and families) to print their photos. It is so important to get your gorgeous photos off of your computer and onto your walls! You can read more about why this is important, and how to do it on my blog: My Top 5 Favorite Ways To Print Your Photos!

2. Engagement Session

Think of your engagement session more as a “getting to know each other” session -they are vital to the success of your wedding day. You will all feel more comfortable on the day of after doing an engagement session and spending time with your photographer. You will trust them and that’s when the true magic happens! For engagement sessions, have fun with the location options & embrace this special season of life. You can also use your engagement photos for things like your save the date cards or guest book! 3. Consultation & Follow Up

Most photographers offer to meet in person or over FaceTime to get to know you (and vice versa) and discuss wedding photography package options. They may also mention setting up another call closer to the wedding to run through all of the details before the big day. I personally keep in touch with my couples a regular intervals during the planning process to make sure everything is going alright and to be of any help I can! I use an easy electronic booking system that keeps contracts, payments and questionnaires organized in one place. It’s a huge plus!
