One of Kevin’s and my favorite things about our new ‘hood is being blocks away from several amazing nano-breweries. To say the least, Kevin was thrilled when we realized we could walk to nearly 10 different local breweries and that Ballard was quickly becoming the “brewery district” of Seattle. One of our favorites is Hilliard’s, which is approximately 3 blocks from our apartment. Super hip with wire chandeliers, concrete benches, and a slew of rotating food trucks, Hilliard’s is taking Washington by storm. On the other side of their industrial space is a roller derby rink. A roller derby rink. How awesome is that? One night while enjoying a brew, we started chatting with the master brewer, Joey. I got to meet up with Joey and get a special tour of the space, and learn a little bit about brewing & canning! Joey showed me how to pull samples straight from the barrel and test it for sugar content. And what is the brewmaster’s choice pick? Hilliard’s Amber Ale! Dedicating themselves to the unique vision of canning great beer, Hilliard’s is now distributing their delicious brews all over Washington – Get some!
