At Home Newborn Session: Chance

I loved getting to meet sweet baby Chance for his at home newborn session in Ballard! His hair was beyond precious – fluffy & standing straight up like a newborn chick. Their home had so much beautiful natural light. It came streaming in through their bedroom and living room windows, creating a lovely airy setting. Amanda joked that you don’t realize how many windows you have until you look into window coverings!

I loved all of the geometric lines and industrial shapes in their home as well. The hard wooden headboard wall was a stunning contrast to the soft white sheets. The wrought iron stairwell provided incredible lines to work with too. Contrasting the sweetness of a newborn baby with strong architectural elements is always something that interests my eye for composition!

While I usually suggest staying away from patterned clothing, Amanda’s kitty dress totally suited her and brought her unique personality into their photos! Her busier dress was evened out by the boys in white. The color pallet was still neutral – blacks & browns, so it didn’t overpower Chance’s delicate features or cast a colored glow onto his skin. These are all important elements to consider when choosing what to wear for your newborn session!

Don’t Stress Over Mess!

Just incase you needed another reminder, your home does NOT have to be perfect, clean & tidy for your newborn session! You are keeping a tiny human alive & no one expects your home to be spotless. Leave it to me to help clear corners and trust that I will capture you and your home in a beautiful way. I do suggest tidying up your bed so we can take some shots cuddling there, but otherwise, I encourage you to take a deep breath & simply enjoy the process! I even asked if we could move their sofa to a different wall in their living room to get the best light, and they happily obliged!

“I just wanted to comment on how much I appreciated your willingness to tell us how to pose. I get super awkward when having photos taken and never really know what to do, and you made sure we got a set of really awesome photos :)” – Amanda
