In Home Newborn Photography: Hadley

I met Jenn at the Get Hitched Give Hope gala (an awesome example of wedding industry pros teaming up to make good things happen) last fall. I overheard her talking about shooting weddings at Roche Harbor & that she had gotten married there herself. This set a lightbulb off in my mind because I had met with a client that was getting married at Roche Harbor & she decided to go with a different photographer, that had coincidentally gotten married there as well. My first instinct was man, that’s the photographer that got that sweet gig over me! Then, I decided to first, confirm that that was actually the same photographer (because otherwise, awkwarrrdd) and second, to find out more about her. The bride was awesome (and is actually now one of my favorite yogi friends) so I knew she had good taste. Jenn & I hit it off immediately. We spent the entire night talking about travel, food, our husbands and our dogs. I hadn’t had such an instant, easy connection in a while and I was practically giddy about my newfound friendship. Just like any new relationship, I was anxious to see if we would continue to talk, or if it was just a one-night-thing ; ) Lucky for me, Jenn lives just a few blocks away & we started going on walks together with our dogs, getting ice cream, and chatting about everything under the sun. Jenn generously shares her wisdom about her photography business & I am so in awe of how she has shaped her career. She quickly became a dear friend & mentor.

During these walks and coffee dates over the last year, Jenn’s belly grew. She had gotten pregnant just a few months after we met & I loved hearing her perspective on pregnancy & what parenting would look like for her, Zak and their pup, Olly. Jenn is not only an amazing wedding photographer, but also crushes it at newborn & family, so I was over the moon (read: excited & nervous) when she asked if I would take their baby girl, Hadley’s pictures soon after she arrived. For the first part of their session, Hadley decided she must be bounced on the yoga ball. It still cracks me up to look at the photos & see Jenn & Zak’s head placement oscillating up & down against the wall behind them. I loved how go-with-the-flow they were. Olly would go back and forth from being interested in Hadley to wanting nothing to do with her which also lead to some hilarious shots. Jenn, Zak, Olly & Hadley – thank you for having me in your home to capture this sweet time. It is such a joy to call you all friends & I’m looking forward to many more walks, brewery trips & photo sessions.
