Happy Friday everyone! This might be one of my favorite engagement sessions to date… so get ready! When I first met Elly over coffee to book their wedding, we instantly realized how much we had in common & how great of a fit we were going to be for their wedding. It was love at first matching journal sight (it’s true, we have exactly the same journal). Elly grew up on Bainbridge Island so she definitely had a vision for their engagement session & I was pumped. Factoring in good lighting & the often crowded weekend, and even weekday commuter ferries, we decided to wake up at the crack of dawn on a Sunday morning. We grabbed coffee at Top Pot Doughnut at 7:15am & started with a few portraits on my new favorite rooftop above Post Alley. We walked over to the terminal & with the ease of a native traveler, Elly guided us around the 7:55am ferry to Bainbridge. The sun was shyly peeking through the morning cloud cover & we felt virtually alone. There was a home Seahawks game at 1pm, but we weren’t surrounded by 12s until we were coming back to Seattle rather than on the ride going to Bainbridge. They cozied up under a Pendleton blanket on the bow, and danced through empty car decks. I shot more frames during this session than I ever have before & it’s clear to see why! Elly & JJ were beyond adorable & the setting couldn’t have been more inspiring. It also helped that it only took about 5 seconds to walk to each different location on the boat! A quick change, a hop off & back on the ferry and we were headed back to Seattle. It took a little more strategy to keep all of the people out of the shots, but I loved their second, more casual, look & the still misty morning stretching out across the Sound. Their session was the perfect start to fall – cozy sweaters, leather booties & a nip in the air and I cannot wait for their wedding next September at Dairyland!
