Classic Southern Wedding in Virginia: Kaity & Ben

Kaity & Ben met in high school 10 years ago. Their romance started during a school play (Kaity made the first move!) & continued through the first two years of college long distance, before they were reunited at the University of Virginia. After graduation, Ben was hired onto the team at Microsoft so they made the drive cross country to start their life in Seattle. Kaity & I had lots of mutual friends at UVA but our paths didn’t cross until we both found ourselves on the west coast, eager to make friends so far from where we’d grown up. Kaity’s energy is contagious and we easily became good friends.

Kaity & Ben love food, so it wasn’t out of the ordinary for them to hit some local hot spots, like the Dahlia Lounge. To Kaity’s complete & utter surprise, Ben got down on one knee and proposed. The only thing that could top this moment 8 years in the making was the celebrity appearance of Tom Douglas himself, presenting the couple with an autographed copy of his latest cookbook. Needless to say, Kaity was beside herself!

The high school sweethearts decided to tie the knot back in their beloved Virginia. After having photographed their engagement session in Seattle, it was such a treat to get to fly cross country to document their celebration at Sunset Crest Manor in northern Virginia. The day started off ominously, with hurricane-like down-pouring rain, but these Seattleites knew their day would be wonderful regardless. Then, just as Kaity was preparing to see Ben for the first time in her gown, the skies cleared. Even though these two had been together for a decade, it was like they were seeing their future together for the first time, knowing that today they would finally become husband & wife.

Their first look was followed by bridal party portraits with their closest friends and family, a gorgeous tented ceremony (it did rain a bit off and on throughout the day, but just sprinkles thank goodness!) and a fabulous party complete with custom cocktails, delicious food, lively dancing & a sparkler send off. We all actually caught the same flight back to Seattle on Monday, but while I got busy culling & editing, they jetted off to Tokyo & Bali! I know these adventurers are having an amazing time on their honeymoon & I can’t wait to celebrate with them when they get back. Congratulations Kaity & Ben! You’re married!!
