Whidbey Island Wedding: Ashley & Matt

These two stole my heart during their (first attempt) engagement session. It was pouring down rain, thundering, lightening (doesn’t happen all that often here in Seattle) and windy like crazy. Through all of the nutso weather, they were magnetically connected – completely smitten with each other, giddy. All smiles. I couldn’t help but think to myself that these two would be able to laugh though the storms of life together, and I got to capture this special time in their love story. We had slightly better luck during their second engagement session, but even then it still drizzled a bit. We all decided that this meant it would be gloriously sunny on their wedding day, and boy did Washington deliver!

The sun beamed down on Matt as he waited anxiously for his bride on the bluff of one of the most beautiful places in Washington (in my opinion), Deception Pass. Ashley scaled the cliff in 4 inch heels (be sure to check out the behind the scenes shots at the end of the post!) to tap him on the shoulder. Their joy was contagious and I found myself smiling ear to ear all day. They gave me the gift of time for their portraits, so we hiked through mossy trees and trudged along sandy beaches, embracing the streaming sunlight and the pure happiness on their faces. I played with the shadows on the cliffs and deeply inhaled the salty sea air.

We headed back to Matt’s childhood home where family & friends had transformed the backyard into a tranquil garden ceremony and reception space. I loved how the floral arch nearly blended into the lush landscaping, and the twinkle lights that hung above the dance floor. Matt & Ashley shared communion together and became husband and wife. The sun set as they shared their first dance, and all of the guests laughed through toasts reminiscing about endless phone calls and text conversations during the beginning of their relationship. A dreamy sparkler sendoff at dusk sent the newlyweds off on their Hawaiian honeymoon! Ashley & Matt, I can’t thank you enough for having me as a part of your wedding day. It was such a pleasure to capture the love between you two & I wish you so much joy in your marriage! Congratulations!

We also popped over to Flintstone Park for some bridal party portraits!

Matt designed Ashley’s ring himself – how stunning is it!?

I loved Ashley’s reception dress change – a blush fitted shift, the perfect sleek & modern compliment to her romantic ballgown!
