I could hardly choose a reasonable amount of favorite images from my shoots this summer. It is honestly overwhelming to see them all together like this. To think about all of the hard work, joy, early mornings, late nights, magic, creativity, missed dinners, fulfillment, pride, guilt, ALL of it, wrapped up in these beautiful images. Being a working mom is a push-pull like I’ve never experienced before. Pushing during nap time, pulling on family support and resources, connecting deeper with my clients, savoring time by myself driving to sessions, missing Fitz, knowing and FEELING that I am doing good, important, FUN work.
I don’t share as many images from sessions on social media these days, because those precious minutes (hours) that it takes to post them, doesn’t seem quite so important as it used to. I share on stories when I can, but I do believe that my best and most precious resources of time and energy are better spent being with my baby, my family, and serving my clients.
August brought a whole host of challenges for our family. From Lemon’s health decline, to managing COVID, RSV, regional + international travel, and more, it took grit, persistence and honestly an inner knowing of myself – that I could show up and do good work for these families, despite everything else going on around me. That’s how I know that I am doing the work I am supposed to be doing. It is hard, but it is beautiful.
Experiencing Lemon’s health decline, I can’t help but savor including your furbabies in your sessions whenever I get the opportunity to. We don’t know how much longer we have with Lemon, and after she is gone we will have memories, and we will have photographs. It is an honor to capture these moments for my families, too. Each of these images is a slice of these families’ histories. I see them hung on walls, I see them shared on social media. It brings me so much joy and purpose to know that I am helping celebrate wherever you are at. Thank you, thank you.
