I’ve gotten to do a handful of adventure engagement sessions here in the Pacific Northwest & I’ve got to say, they are some of my absolute favorites! I love exploring the beauty of the PNW with my couples. Whether it’s hiking a mountain, or hopping on a ferry – there are endless places to visit. I have seen so many beautiful places through photography and I couldn’t be more grateful. This is my 6th summer here in Seattle and the huge variety of scenery still amazes me! Ferry rides have quickly become a favorite photo location, too. They are great for any kind of weather since they offer both indoor and outdoor options! Kelly & Blake are getting married at Roche Harbor later this year, so including a ferry in their adventure engagement session was a perfect fit!
Make it Personal!
Kelly & Blake recently bought a home together in West Seattle. They love to go on long runs together in Lincoln Park. Their pup, Mal, also loves a good afternoon exploring! The sun was blaring and the wind roaring, but we had a blast strolling up and down the boardwalk.
I have to admit, I can be a pretty type A person. I love to plan things down to the minute. Kelly confessed that she, too, is usually the planner in their relationship. Blake is a bit more go-with-the-flow. The ferry terminal is right next to Lincoln Park. We had considered taking the ferry over to Vashon, but made no specific plans. Kelly grew up spending time with her family at their cabin on Vashon Island and loved to take Blake there on adventures. The weather was threatening all day – dark rain clouds looming on the horizon. Kelly & Blake were down to chance it, so we hopped in the car to see if we could make the afternoon ferry. With luck, we made it on and cruised across the Sound.
Going With the Flow
The first cafe we tried to go to was closed, but we ended up landing at an adorable little bakery instead. We shared strawberry danish & a couple of beers. We chatted endlessly about backpacking adventures, honeymoon plans, and our favorite ice cream shops. It was time to head back to the ferry, so we wrapped up some pizza to-go and hopped back in the car. Classic me-moment when I asked them to pull over to the side of the road and snap a couple of shots in front of the giant wall covered in ivy. Even with it’s hiccups and mis-adventures, the day flowed perfectly. I felt like I was hanging with them on a typical day of exploration, doing what they would normally do together. Those are always some of my favorite moments to capture. Perfectly at ease, in their natural element.
It finally started raining on part of the ferry ride back. Kelly and Blake were trilled to have some classic PNW weather and didn’t hesitate to dance in the rain on the loading deck. I loved how easy this session was; these two simply fit together. Like two joyful, adventure loving puzzle pieces. I absolutely cannot wait to capture their love again on their wedding day! Thank you for adventuring with me, Kelly & Blake, and showing me yet another amazing slice of the Pacific Northwest!
