Yoga Photography

The warmth & sun has been spoiling us in Seattle lately and I’ve been doing my best to take advantage of it! This past weekend my oldest sister & her family came to visit us in Seattle of the first time and I had a blast showing them around the city. Their visit was a bit different that my middle sister’s trip since there were two adorable little ones in tow – my 4 year old nephew, Lee, & his 2 year old sister, Julia! We did manage to squeeze in one adults only dinner out to Revel, but the majority of our time was spent exploring jungle gyms in our neighborhood and reading colorfully illustrated children’s books. Not having kids of our own yet, I had to do a bit of research ahead of time to figure out the best kid friendly activities and spots, and I was pleasantly surprised when places were a big hit. Kevin & I love going to all of the breweries in Ballard, so I knew that had to be on the list. Stoup has a full on kid station complete with games & coloring paper, but what entertained the littles the most? The ramp up to the outdoor beer garden! They ran up and down that thing for an hour straight. It’s the little things, guys! Uncle Kevin had been itching to take Lee to the Pacific Science Center so they had a boys afternoon exploring the exhibits together & during a morning nap, I snuck my sister out for a blissful hour of yoga. We watched boats go in and out of the Ballard Locks, ate fish & chips and grilled steaks in our yard. A weekend full of simple pleasures, delicious food, great conversation and the best company!

Their visit was bookended by a two-part yoga photography series I did with one of my dear friends, Kristina. Kristina recently graduated from yoga teacher training and is beginning to pursue her teaching career! She needed some photos for her bio page and I jumped at the opportunity to photograph her practicing in nature as well as in a gorgeous studio. We spent an evening flowing through poses at Golden Gardens, and then a few yoga friends joined us for a simple studio session in Pioneer Square! Yoga has been creeping into my photography sphere more lately and I’m not mad about it at all. I personally love to practice yoga, so it makes my heart full when I get to photograph it as well! I’ll be photographing a “mindful triathlon” event in a couple of weeks here in Seattle and I’m pretty pumped – hundreds of people participating in a 5k, 75 minute yoga flow & 30 minute meditation put on by Wanderlust. How cool is that?! If you or anyone you know is looking for some headshots for your new adventure (fitness or otherwise!) shoot me an email – I’d love to chat! Namaste!
